The World’s Most Famous Brain



The brain pictured below is considered to be the world’s most famous brain. It belonged to a man named Henry Gustav Molaison, known as “Patient HM,” who had a memory that lasted only a few minutes as a result of brain surgery conducted in 1953 that was intended to stop his severe epilepsy.

Mr Molaison’s brain sits in a plexiglass mold waiting to be embedded in gelatin, frozen, sliced, dyed, mounted, and finally scanned.

The $8.5 Million Astolat Dollhouse Castle: World’s Most Expensive Dollhouse

Appraised at $8.5 million, the Astolat Dollhouse Castle costs more than a fully furnished condo in New York City. But then, this is no ordinary dollhouse. It’s nine feet tall, has 29 rooms, weighs 800 pounds and is furnished with 10,000 miniature pieces including extravagant furnishings, working fireplaces, stained glass panels, oil paintings, mirrors, gold miniature jewelry, fine rugs and fabric, and even rare-mini books more than 100 years old. All of these were meticulously handcrafted by artisans from all over the world.

The dollhouse was created primarily by Colorado-based miniaturist Elaine Diehl, after she got inspired by Alfred Tennyson's poetry about the Lady of the Lake. Over a thirteen year period, between 1974 and 1987, Elaine Diehl built the castle taking help of experts and miniature artists from around the world.

You may remember a post we did about Alicja Zmyslowska, a Polish photographer who takes beautiful and dreamlike portraits of dogs. Well, we loved her work so much that we thought we’d share some more of her pictures with you. After all, you can’t get too much of a good thing, and we’re sure you’ll agree that these pictures aren’t just good – they’re stunning.

“Since I was a child I loved animals,” Zmyslowska . “When I was 4, I got two beautiful cats but my biggest dream was still to have a dog. In 2006 this dream came true. My lovely golden retriever Kiara finally arrived to my home and changed my life! From the beginning I was making pictures of her with some compact camera or borrowed DSLR from my older brother. A year later I got my first DSLR camera. And everything started!”
